Submissions
The Visible Human Journal of Endoscopy (VHJOE) is an electronic, peer-reviewed journal to provide a forum for the publication of original case reports which employ endoscopy and imaging, original work in endoscopy and imaging, and reviews regarding endoscopy imaging and related therapy. The journal emphasizes the relation of clinical findings to normal human anatomy utilizing the Visible Human Interactive Atlas located at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. The formatting of VHJOE complies with the guidelines recommended by the “Uniform Requirements Submitted to Biomedical Journals” (Ann Intern Med. 1997;126:36-47). In general VHJOE uses a journal format similar to Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. (See “Instructions To Authors” Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. 2001;53:29A-35A.)
Types of Submissions
Articles/Case Reports
Articles and case reports
should be brief, with liberal image and video clip usage, if possible. Please include the following areas:
- Title
- Keywords (2 or more)
- Disclaimer (if applicable)
- Introduction
- Methods for Image Capture/Processing
- Body/Case
- Summary
- References
The Methods for Image Capture/Processing section should include methods utilized during the generation of images, such as equipment type and settings during image capture. The Body/Case section should include pertinent history, physical exam supporting laboratory evidence, radiologic information, pathologic information, and details on the endoscopy/imaging findings. The journal is interested in publishing correlative radiologic, histologic and photographic (including endoscopic) images.
Reviews/Original Work
Reviews and original work should be thorough, with liberal image and video clip usage, if possible. Review articles should emphasize the
role of endoscopy and imaging, rather than provide a comprehensive review
of a disease state, i.e. "The Role of EUS in Staging
Rectal Cancer" would be a more appropriate subject than "Rectal
Cancer." Please include the following areas:
- Title
- Keywords (2 or more)
- Disclaimer (if applicable)
- Introduction
- Body
- Results/Summary
- References
The Body section may be divided into subsections when appropriate. Where appropriate, use of tables is encouraged for the Results section.
Letters to the Editor
Letters to the editor should be concise and refer to previous editions of VHJOE. Please submit to pubvhjoe@uchsc.edu.
General Guidelines
Information should be in English and submitted as a MS Word document. Please include captions for images/video clips within your manuscript. Digital images may be included in the MS Word document or may be submitted separately as JPG, BMP, TIF, or Photoshop files. Please ensure minimum resolution of digital images is 72 dpi at 400 pixels wide. Video clips may be submitted as MPEG, MOV, or WMV files. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions on image or video clip formats.
Title Page
All submissions should include a title page. Please include the following information on your title page:
- Title
- Full name(s) of author(s)
- Academic degrees of author(s)
- Institution, including city and state or country
- Location and date of conference where info was/will be presented (if applicable)
- Grant support (if applicable)
- Name of corresponding author
- Address, e-mail, phone, and fax number for corresponding author
Product/Drug Names
Generic drug names should be used; trade may be inserted in parentheses after the initial mention of the drug. Product or device names should be treated similarly, listing the manufacturer’s name city and state in parentheses.
Laboratory Values
Laboratory values should be reported in SI units. For conversion of non-SI units see http://www.techexpo.com/techdata/techcntr.html. Normal values should be included in parentheses.
References/Citations
References should be verified by using PubMed’s citation Matcher at http://www.bcbi.nlm.gov/PubMed/wgetcit.html, if applicable. References cited in the text should be listed in consecutive order under the bibliography citation format.
Please use Index Medicus for journal title abbreviations. Authors will be responsible for accuracy of all citations. Examples of proper format for citations are given below.

Disclosure Statement
The author(s) must include a separate disclosure statement indicating any financial or other interests in the manufacture or distribution of any device or drug mentioned in the manuscript.
Ethics of Treatment Investigators reporting on research involving human subjects or animals must have prior approval from an institutional review board. This approval should be mentioned in the methods section of the manuscript. In countries where institutional review boards are not available, the authors must include a statement that research was conducted in accordance with the Helsinki Delectation as revised 1989.
Abbreviations Abbreviations should be spelled out the first time they appear in the text. The AMA Manual of Style, 9th Edition (Baltimore: Williams & Wilkins; 1998 p. 319-28) provides a list of standard abbreviations.
Legends
Legends should be included with your manuscript on separate page labeled “Figure Legends” and include enough information so that figures/video clips can be interpreted without reference to the text.

Copyright Transfer
Manuscripts will be accepted with the understanding that they are contributed to VHJOE. Authors warrant that a manuscript is original, it has not been previously published in any language, and none of the material is contained in any other manuscript under consideration for publication elsewhere. Manuscripts may be presented at conferences, as long as the manuscript is cited as being published in VHJOE. Based on the Chicago Manual of Style, your article/review should be cited as follows:

Review Process
All submissions will be evaluated by two independent reviewers for content, accuracy, and quality.
VHJOE Editor/Publisher will send feedback from reviewers to corresponding author. Revised
manuscripts should be resubmitted per the instructions
above. The corresponding author should address a point
by point response to comment(s) from each reviewer.
