Technical Tips for Viewing VHJOE Website

QuickTime in VHJOE
QuickTime is a common technology used for displaying digital video and sound on computers. QuickTime is required to view the video and sound samples available on this website.

QuickTime from Apple is one of the most popular web plug-ins for interactive media. Downloading and installing QuickTime is easy and the plug-in is free from Apple. It will work on nearly any platform, whether you're using Netscape Navigator, MS Internet Explorer or even AOL.

Firewalls and QuickTime
Firewalls are designed to protect corporate information, but they can also prevent you from viewing QuickTime streams. This is because firewalls are frequently configured to block data protocols that QuickTime uses for streaming. Use the information on this page to set your QuickTime settings. Server administrators can also use the information provided on this page to safely set up servers to block unwanted traffic but allow QuickTime streams in.

Troubleshooting
How do I get the free QuickTime software?
If you don't already have the QuickTime plug-in (a "plug-in" is a piece of software), you can download it, free of charge, from Apple Computer. It takes just a few minutes to download it onto your hard disk and install it. From then on, it will open automatically whenever you access QuickTime movies wherever you are on the Web. QuickTime software is available for Windows 95 / 98 / NT / ME / 2000 / XP and for Mac OSX / 7.5.5 / 8 / 9.

To download QuickTime, go to the QuickTime website, enter your e-mail address in the box provided under the "Download software now" header and follow the directions for your system. After you've installed QuickTime, come back to VHJOE and you should be able to view the video and sound clips throughout the articles.

I think I have the QuickTime plug-in, but I still can’t view the movies in VHJOE.
ß Reinstall the QuickTime plug-in software (Macintosh or Windows) in ALL of the Internet browsers on your system. If you initially installed the QuickTime plug-in only in MS Internet Explorer and then you attempt to view the movies in Netscape Navigator, you will not be able to view the movies, as the plug-in hasn't been installed in that browser.

If your computer is behind a firewall, contact your network administrator for the correct option to select and information to enter. Your network administrator may have installed a proxy application and you need to configure QuickTime to work with this application.

The Windows Media Player logo appears when I try to play a QuickTime movie, but the movie never plays. What is going on?
Your computer system is configured to try to play QuickTime files in Windows Media Player instead of in QuickTime. Windows Media Player will be unable to play QuickTime movies found on the VHJOE site. Re-install QuickTime; we recommend downloading a fresh copy of the current version using the links above.
