VHJOE
Welcome to the first volume of the electronic
journal, VHJOE.
The editorial board would like to introduce
you to The Visible Human Journal of Endosonography (VHJOE).
This journal is intended to fill a niche in the field of gastroenterology.
It provides a forum for the publication of image-laden original
reports of cases that required the use of Endoscopic Ultrasound
(EUS), expert reviews about EUS imaging and guided therapy,
and technical updates on equipment and digital image processing.
The focus of the journal is on the relation of clinical findings
to normal human anatomy, thus we encourage the use of the
Visible Human Database, located at the University of Colorado
Health Sciences Center, in conjunction with case reports and
review articles.
VHJOE was created to foster a better understanding
of the application of clinical anatomy to the interpretation
of endosonographic studies. We encourage the reader to interact
with the Visible Human Database through on-line WEB links.
Furthermore, this journal will provide the unique opportunity
to interact with the database within the context of the journal
articles. One can click on the digital anatomy images contained
within an article and be linked to the anatomy database from
which that image was derived.
In conjunction with the ASGE, we will compile
the images that are published in this journal into an accessible
WEB-based dataset of EUS findings.
The journal is now soliciting submissions
of case reports and expert reviews about aspects of EUS imaging.
We invite you to view the journal, and plan on monthly publications.
Papers will be examined by two independent reviewers for quality
of imaging and accuracy of content. Details of the submission
process can be found in the instructions to authors section
of the website.
The journal comes as a result of the efforts
of many individuals involved in a variety of fields. Special
thanks must be made to the scientists at the Center for Human
Simulation, particularly Vic Spitzer, Karl Reinig, David Rubenstein
and Jeff Calderone for generating the digital human data and
constantly upgrading methods for data access. Thanks must
also go to the clinical board of editors (Manoop Bhutani,
Bill Brugge, Peter McNally and Iqbal Sandhu), the managers,
programmers and copy editors at Qwest (Jim Walker, Ben Shniper,
Trever Salla, Alex Kutovoy and Terry Ann Glauser), the support
of AstraZeneca (program manager Michael Cord and medical information
scientist Fran Treadway), and the ASGE.
I hope you enjoy the future editions of
VHJOE.
