| Advances in Technology
for VHJOE
The Editorial Staff of VHJOE continue to
advance the state of electronic publication with the introduction
of new technologies and software. The VHJOE WEB interface
has recently been upgraded to permit publication of high resolution
video clips. In previous editions, video clips were published
in Flash format. For this edition and future editions, we
will be using the MPEG4 format for video publications. We
have added an optional download in MPEG4 format for readers
wanting to view videos in higher resolution than what they
see when they open the journal. With this upgrade, we encourage
authors to submit manuscripts including video clips of EUS,
endoscopy, or other procedures, which readers would find of
interest. The VHJOE electronic platform accommodates video
clips and makes the journal a unique resource to educate and
to demonstrate new endoscopic techniques.
Likewise, still images in VHJOE are now
shown in expandable thumbnail format. The quality and sophistication
of the journal can only grow through the feedback and input
of our readership. We encourage readers to submit comments
about the Journal to pubvhjoe@uchsc.edu or edvhjoe@uchsc.edu.
This month, we have an expert review on Cystic Neoplasms
of the Pancreas by Dr. Mitchell and Dr. Jowell. This
is an interesting but difficult area in which EUS plays an
important role in diagnosis and management. To encourage readers
to think about pancreatic anatomy when reading this article,
I have enclosed an image of the pancreas and portal confluence
from an EUS case (Figure 1) and a correlative location from
the Visible Human Database (Figure 2). I have also enclosed
a link to the Visible Human Database for those wishing to
interact with the anatomy at the illustrated location. (Click
on caption below Figure 2.)
In our second year of publication, we want
to emphasize the educational utility of the video clip to
illustrate new endoscopic techniques. We hope to provide an
exciting series of invited reviews and accompanying video
clips.
Finally, I want to thank everyone who contributed
to the process of bringing VHJOE out in the first year of
publication. There have been dedicated efforts at a variety
of levels, including writing, programming, editorial work,
web site design, and upgrades in the methods of bringing our
information to the web.
