Visible Human: The Ampulla of Vader in Cross-Section

Video Clip 1: View of the portal confluence in CT scan orientation.

This issue features a movie showing cross section anatomy of the ampulla and distal common bile duct, similar to a view which would be obtained in a CT scan.

The movie starts caudal to the ampulla and moves in a cephalad direction. The duodenum, inferior vena cava, renal vein, superior mesenteric vein, superior mesenteric artery, and the aorta are all surrounding the pancreas at this level.

Figures 1 and 2 are images from the start and finish of the movie. An arrow shows the location of the common bile duct. Links to the Visible Human Interactive Atlas are included to allow the reader to navigate images contained within the movie. We encourage readers to explore the regional anatomy.
