In this edition of the journal we have presented some current and unusual gastroenterologic cases for the interest of our readers. In two cases, newer techniques and therapies were highlighted. In the report by McNally and McNally, the use of probiotics is explored in disease which was relatively refractory to standard medical therapy. In a different report entitled Ampullary Neoplasia and Narrow Band Imaging, a case is shown in which narrow band imaging is used during clinical decision making. This article allows the reader to become familiar with the difference in visual inspection of dysplastic lesion using NBI compared to white light (Figure 1A,B).

The other cases described conditions suggested to be rare based on the current medical literature such as collagenous gastritis (Figure 2). The common thread in this issue is that the unusual and interesting patient actually occurs commonly in a medical practice.

At VHJOE, we are interested in receiving case reports concerning the unusual patient, since the images and articles we publish can be used for education and to refresh the practitioner’s memory with the incredible variability in human biology.
